Forced Periodic Operation of Methanol Synthesis in an Isothermal Gradientless Reactor

The paper is concerned with methanol synthesis from gas heterogeneous Cu/ZnO/AlO catalysts in an isothermal gradientless reactor. In a theoretical study the potential of forced periodic operation (FPO) for improving reactor performance terms production rate and yield explored. approach based on detailed kinetic model combines nonlinear frequency response (NFR) analysis rigorous numerical multi-objective optimization. Optimal steady state compared optimal given benchmark problem without inert nitrogen feed. It shown that both cases significant improvements up to 108% regarding average molar flow 7.2% carbon feed predicted case inert. For gas, 80% 5.8% possible through if volumetric CO concentration are modulated simultaneously frequency, phase shift, amplitudes, which determined by approach. Further, influence saturation capacity solid dynamic behavior step changes input modulations studied.
